Three 100.000 m3 coal silos for the EMBA Hunutlu Plant
With three large coal silos for the EMBA Hunutlu thermal power plant in Turkey, ESI recently received the biggest order in its history. As the new power plant is located in one of Turkey’s precious nature reserves, the plant needs to comply with high environmental requirements, including taking as little land space as possible. Therefore, the Eurosilo system provided the best solution to fuel the 2x 660 MW power station.
Imported coal-fired power plant
EMBA Electricity Production Co. Inc. is a joint venture of Chinese Shanghai Electric Power Co., two Turkish local investors and AVIC-INTL Project Engineering Company. EMBA is developing an imported coal fired thermal power plant in Turkey with a capacity of 2x 660 MW at a total investment of 1.7 billion USD. The project is aimed at delivering one of the most environment-friendly, clean coal-fired power plants ever, with high-capacity, high reliability and high-efficiency.
Infeed: 2.500 TPH
Our assignment is the engineering and delivery of complete mechanisms for the storage, infeed and reclaiming of the coal in 3 silos of 100.000 m3 each. A dedicated Technical Advisor of ESI will stay at the site for 6 months to oversee the installation and commissioning of the Eurosilo systems in the 3 silos that measure 55 meters in diameter. The stored coal will reach a height of 42.5 meters and will be extracted with a capacity of 750 TPH. The coal silos are positioned at the seaside of the power plant, allowing for efficient unloading of bulk carriers. The infeed therefore amounts to a 2.500 TPH. This is another milestone for ESI on the road to ever-increasing capacities.
ESI partner New Bulks
The Hunutlu project has a long history. The first inquiry at ESI was made in 2015. Since then, ESI and our Chinese partner NewBulks have put great effort in the project as this is a largely Chinese initiative. The engineering of the plant is done by another Chinese company, the East China Electric Power Design Institute (ECEPDI), which also makes the support of NewBulks indispensable for this project. The official starting date for ESI is April 2019. The first delivery of parts that need to be embedded in the concrete will take place in the beginning of 2020. The main delivery of all the Eurosilo scope is scheduled end of 2020.
